Accommodations for DSPS Students
Student Accommodations
After receiving verification of your disabilities and working together to identify academic limitations, your DSPS Counselor will develop an individualized list of appropriate accommodations with you referred to as an Academic Accommodation Plan (AAP).
All accommodation lists have three characteristics in common:
- Individualized
- Appropriate to the student's needs and goals
- Prescribed only by a DSPS Counselor upon verification of disability
If you have already established accommodations with DSPS and wish to review which accommodations are in your AAP, you can do so by accessing your .
Accommodations may include such services as the following, depending on the nature and severity of disabilities:
- Adaptive Physical Education
- Additional Tutoring
- ASL interpreting
- Assistive Technology
- Alternative Media

- Large Print

Once you have an approved and updated AAP for the current academic year, you can access your accommodation letters through your DSPS Student Portal.
To request your Accommodation Letters, please follow the steps below:
- Log in to the and select "Accommodation Updates."
- On the top black menu select 鈥淎ccommodations.鈥
- Review your class list and select "Request" from the course you wish to request accommodations for.
- Review your accommodations on the left side of the next screen. On the right side, you may select additional classes if needed.
- After you review, select 鈥淢y accommodations are correct the way they are.鈥
- Check the terms agreement box to confirm.
- The accommodation letter will be emailed to your instructor by DSPS.
- NOTE: It is encouraged to follow up with your faculty to ensure they have received and reviewed the letter. DSPS accommodations are not retroactive. This means they only apply from the point they are officially communicated to faculty through the accommodation letter. Faculty are not required to adjust past assignments, exams, or grades prior to receiving the letter. Once the letter is sent, accommodations should be implemented moving forward to ensure equal access.
When you establish accommodations with 51今日大瓜, they apply to all BC campuses鈥攊ncluding Panorama (Main), Southwest, Arvin, and Delano campuses. However, accommodations do not automatically transfer across the Kern Community College District.
If you are enrolled in courses at Porterville College or Cerro Coso College, you will need to establish accommodations separately with their DSPS offices. Likewise, if you have accommodations at Porterville or Cerro Coso and are taking classes at Bakersfield College, please register with the BC DSPS office to ensure your accommodations are in place.
